I'm Having a Baby!
I am so excited to announce this new chapter in my life. I am a pregnant woman and little baby Bernier is due to arrive late July. So far we are both very healthy.
The last few months have been an adjustment period. It was exciting telling everyone the good news and pick out baby names. The heightened sense of smell and sudden pickiness when it came to food was interesting. I'm not sure I enjoyed the nausea and sleepiness, but that eventually went away. After the initial excitement wore off (and my appetite returned) I suddenly realized I only have a few short months to prepare and there seems to be never ending lists of decisions I need to make. What to eat, what to buy, what type of diapers to use, should I take supplements, who should my care provider be...
I have found some help in 3 very good books:
What to Expect When You're Expecting ~ by Heidi Murkoff
Although I don't agree with the nutrition advice in the book, if you look past that this book has it all to prepare pregnant women. The book covers any possible question you may have about your pregnancy and labour.
Natural Baby Healthy Child ~ by Clarke Murray
This book has some great nutrition advice for during pregnancy, breastfeeding, and for kidshealth. There is also some good tips on supplementation during these periods as well.
The Nourishing Traditions Book of Baby and Childcare ~ Sally Fallon Morell
Sally Fallon brings you nutrition from the Weston Price perspective. Weston Price approaches nutrition from a traditional view. Sally Fallon does the same. Her recommendations about dairy are questionable, but all other nutrition advice is sound. You will get great ideas for your pregnancy diet and breastfeeding diet from this book.
Over the remaining weeks of my pregnancy I'm going to share with you good prenatal nutrition that is actually working for me, my purchasing decisions regarding all those new baby items you need (or think you need), and anything else that comes to mind. Along with the new mommy blog and pregnancy blog focus comes a new look, so stop by the site and check it out.
As usual I love hearing from you. How was your pregnancy in the first trimester? Post your comments below.
