Mamas Morning Smoothie

A smoothie perfect for expecting mothers. It contains a variety of nutrients focusing on protein, folic acid, and healthy fats. I created this smoothie so you can quickly intake a good amount of nutrients in the morning when you are rushing out the door. 

Ingredients

1 cup Loose Packed Spinach Leaves

1 tbsp Hemp Seeds

1 tbsp Holy Crap Cereal

1 tbsp Almond Butter

1 tbsp Coconut Oil

1 tbsp Cacao Nibs

1 cup Blueberries

2 cups Almond Milk

Directions

Place all ingredients in a blender or Vitamix and blend on high until smooth.

Why Are These Ingredients Good For A Pregnant Woman?

Spinach

As an excellent source of folic acid and iron, spinach is a great addition to any pregnancy diet. Best spinach seasons are spring and fall because the cold air increases it's flavour. 

Hemp Seeds

These little super seeds contain a great amount of essential fatty acids, including Omega 3 fatty acids that are essential for your little baby's health. The omega-3's will help ensure your baby will have a healthy brain and eyes. 

Hemp seeds are also a complete protein and an excellent source of protein. Adding them to a shake or salad dressing will ensure your mini-you gets a good dose of protein.

Almond Butter/Milk

Almonds are my favourite nut, I always have them on hand as a snack. They are great for pregnancy because they contain a good amount of vitamin E. Vitamin E is essential to constructing a healthy placenta for your baby and essential for reproduction in general. Almonds also contain minerals that will help your baby grow strong bones.

Coconut Oil

This oil is a saturated fat, which is essential to the health of your baby. Saturated fats make up half of our cell membranes and are an important source of energy. They will ensure good absorption of fat soluble minerals. When we get to the breast feeding stage, nearly half the fatty acids in our breast milk are saturated, showing that saturated fats are essential for the growth and development of your baby.

Cacao Nibs

Cacao is the raw form of chocolate. Cocoa is a cacao bean that has been cooked and processed. Cacao beans are wrought with immune building vitamins and minerals, adding just a small amount to your diet will help ensure you are intaking enough nutrients to build your baby.  (Note the nib is just the chopped bean) 

Blueberries

High in antioxidants and fibre, these little berries really pack a punch. They will help ensure your good digestion and your baby's healthy immune system. Adding any berries to your diet is going to make a big difference in yours and your baby's health.
