Baby Bump Diary: Week 24

Baby Bump Diary: Week 24

What's Up With Little B

  • Little B is growing fast, apparently (s)he may have gained about 99g/22oz since last week
  • Babies taste buds are now forming, I better watch my bad food intake lol!
  • This week is a big milestone, if little B is born early starting this week, there is a good chance (s)he will survive with special care :-)

Spring is here! This isn't baby news but I'm excited all the same. It's been a long cold winter. The sun is finally shining and I can go outside without a jacket!

Had another great week of pregnancy. It is thrilling how often little B kicks now, (s)he is just a squirming away, I hope this is a good sign for a healthy baby.

We've been going on lots of walks this week and made it to the pool a few times for a swim.

I still have leaky boobs, I think I will have to get used to it until I'm done breastfeeding.

Pregnancy Diet

Diet has been great and my appetite is still hearty. I eat three meals a day plus a few snacks. I'm still loving fruit, but that's not such a bad thing, lots of good fibre and nutrients in fruit.

Preparing For Baby

I have been thinking about the birthing process more and more, so I watched a couple of birthing videos. They were fantastic and really eased my fears about labour and birth. I had Mr. B watch them with me, he wasn't happy about having to watch, but I think he got a lot out of them.

I highly recommend both the videos I watched this week. They are biased towards natural births and using midwifes, but I'm okay with that. I agree with them and believe every women should do her best to deliver naturally, without intervention. It is better for mother and  child. That being said I also know there is a time and place for a cesarian, it is an amazing surgery that can and has saved the lives of women and babies all over the world.

This is a video that looks at labour as a right of passage and explains that many women will actually find labour pleasurable. I'm not sure if I agree with the pleasure part, I guess I will see, but I found the documentary soothing to the spirit. Our bodies are built for delivering babies and we can overcome the pain. I also liked that this video showed the birth of many different babies and it wasn't traumatizing like the scary video they show you in high school.

This documentary was produced by none other than Ricki Lake. Until I watched the video I didn't realize how much of an advocate for natural birth she is. I love her for this. The video was amazing, it looked at many different types of births and talked about real birthing statistics. It also explained the different interventions you may be presented with. The movie featured points of views from both midwifes and obstetricians. I feel so much more prepared and have a better idea of what interventions I will accept and not accept from watching this video.
